The Smartest of Watches

These days, watches are for more than simply telling time. There are some camps that feel the Apple Watch or Samsung Gear are nothing more than cool or gimmicky gadgets. The smart, forward-thinking small business owner sees the at-your-fingertips potential and steers clear of those camps.

Mobile Portability

Mobile is no longer solely an adjective. It has evolved into a noun, and almost all of us has a mobile device nearby at this very moment (there’s a very good chance you’re reading this on one). Far more than just a means of communication, the mobile device has become a necessity in staying connected to your business and the world around you.

As technology rapidly evolves, it makes sense that what we used to rely on has become smaller and more portable. For your small business to stay current, you always want your finger on the pulse. With both fingers and pulse right at your wrist, having access to your business via smartwatch is only logical. To see a list of the top 10 smartwatches for 2018, click here.

The Smart(er) Way of Doing Business

Whether or not you want internal storage for your smartwatch is an important, but oft overlooked, question. It is, however, an integral question when it comes to selecting the right smartwatch right for your small business.

In this hyper-connected world, so much information and data is available to you on a variety of cloud-based CRM’s that the aforementioned world as well as your clients, customers, inventory, analytics – in short, your entire business – is a simple finger-tap away.

You don’t need more storage space for your smartwatch to be operational. However, you certainly do want storage for any information you’ve obtained when your phone isn’t within reach. Most smartwatches come with 4GB of storage standard, but it’s always better to have some wiggle room. Being prepared for the unexpected keeps you ahead of the game.

Immediacy is Key

If you’re a busy businessperson who’s constantly on the go, a smartwatch could be one of the smartest investments you make towards the success of your business.

It enables you to perform such integral tasks as:

  • constantly check email
  • send and receive calls
  • address issues that require your immediate attention
  • receive alerts on affairs specifically tailored to your business
  • schedule a new appointment (especially if that new appointment/meeting/opportunity suddenly develops while rushing between pre-existing appointments/meetings/opportunities)
  • do what it takes 24/7 to make your business a success

In short, last-minute multitasking has never been so easy.

SmartBiz – What’s in Store

Storage rooms filled with file folders are a thing of the past. Soft copies have long replaced hard copies, though it’s always wise to have a paper trail – even if that paper is digital.

A quick review of the evolution of storage (with apologies to Charles Darwin and Steve Jobs) might look something like this:

Storage room bursting with files > desktop / floppy / disk / CD computer storage > laptops > mobile devices > the cloud > smartphones > tablets > smartwatches > ??

We can only guess at what will be next. By integrating a smartwatch into your business strategy, you have the opportunity to gain a few extra seconds on your competition – and, as you know, those seconds could prove critical.
